This mother Brown Bear (in the center) adopted the first year cub on the left to join her natural born cub on the right. The adopted bear cub had been abandoned by his mother the previous year. It is rather rare for a mother bear to adopt another cub like this. I was in the river when this family came running upstream in search of sockeye salmon.
