An Alaskan Brown Bear happily chases salmon. Katmai National Park & Preserve. These bears feast on the sockeye salmon that spawn in the streams that feed the large lakes of Katmai National Park & Preserve. Between June and October these bears increase their body weight by at least 40% on salmon so they can survive their long winter hibernation.
